Systematic Reviews

WorkSafeBC is dedicated to keeping workers and workplaces safe and secure from injury, illness, and disease. To achieve this vision, WorkSafeBC must encourage and support the development and use of the best scientific evidence on the range of issues that workers, employers, and the organization itself face concerning workplace health and safety.

In recent years, systematic reviews have become an increasingly important means of critically assessing and summarizing the often vast amounts of research information on specific topics. Systematic reviews are distinct from traditional reviews, as they rely on scientific, transparent methods that minimize bias and can generate balanced conclusions derived from the best available evidence.

WorkSafeBC offers systematic review grants to address research questions of priority to the organization. Competitions for systematic review grants (Requests for Proposals) are conducted on an as-needed basis, and are open to researchers worldwide. WorkSafeBC identifies specific research questions/issues, and selects researchers to carry out this work using a rigorous review process.

The purpose of these competitions is to develop a better understanding of the current state of knowledge on issues of priority to WorkSafeBC by soliciting proposals to:

  • Synthesize the existing research
  • Provide critical assessment of the current knowledge level
  • Identify future knowledge needs in each of the areas specified (where applicable)
